Surgeon Information
Hugh C. McLeod, III, MD
Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon
Steeped in tradition, Dr. McLeod carries on his family's legacy using medicine
to serve patients, as well as the community. Dr. McLeod's dedication to
young athletes has been a staple for Walton High School, where he started
the Sports Medicine Program and has served as Team Physician since 1982.
In February 2001, after 20 years of service and dedication to Walton's
student athletes, the Dr. Hugh C. McLeod Sports Medicine Center
was named in his honor. In 1985, he became the orthopaedic consultant at
Georgia Institute of Technology's Student Health Center, and he has been the
medical director for the BellSouth PGA Golf Classic since 1990. He shares
his expertise and passion for medicine as an active member of the Board of
Directors for the Arthritis Foundation, Georgia Chapter and the leadership
board for the Osteoporosis Foundation.
Serving a range of patients from children and athletes to young professionals
and seniors, Dr. McLeod stays abreast of the latest in orthopaedic surgery as
a research and study analyst for multiple pharmaceutical and orthopaedic
companies. He maintains active membership in numerous medical
organizations, including the Atlanta and Georgia Orthopaedic Societies and
the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. McLeod is also an
active speaker and frequent lecturer to academic and community audiences.
An honor graduate of both the University of Mississippi and its School of
Medicine, Dr. McLeod established his Atlanta-based practice in 1982 following
the completion of an orthopaedic fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstructive
Surgery at Royal London Hospital. This highly sought after post-residency
appointment also provided Dr. McLeod the opportunity to serve as the
orthopaedic lecturer at the London School of Medicine. Prior to completing
his fellowship, Dr. McLeod conducted his surgical internship at the University
of Utah and his orthopaedic residency at Georgia Baptist and Scottish Rite
Hospitals in Atlanta. Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic
Surgery, Dr. McLeod is a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons. He has held a teaching appointment for the combined
orthopaedic residency programs at Atlanta Medical Center and Scottish Rite
Hospitals (now Children's Healthcare of Atlanta). He cares for patients at
Northside and Saint Joseph's Hospitals.
